Onda Sonora Picks Week 1.
You might have seen or noticed 22tracks isn’t what it used to be and has morphed into a new website with plenty of selections. This means our weekly update of the Originals list is no more. No worries though because we’ll continue doing what we did but differently. Through the 22tracks website a few times a year and weekly on our own site. Expect 5 tracks you should give a decent check here at the start of every week. It’s too much fun to stop doing it.
In this week’s update:
Fruit – If You Feel It, Say Yeah – Athens Of The North
Great funk track, or deep disco as the label calls it, recently dug up from some archives but now available to all thanks to the great reissue label Athens Of The North. Available on 12” in a long version as on the previously unreleased album.
Françis Bebey – Forest Nativity – Born Bad Records
We usually play tracks from that other Françis Bebey compilation released by Born Bard Records but the other one, Psychedelic Sanza 1982-1984, has firmly secured its place in our box too recently through slow burners like this one.
Jam Band ’80 – Jammin’ (With The Jam Band) – Rush Hour
From the second Surinam funk compilation released by Rush Hour. This is the tracks that we play the most in our party sets. Top quality funk.
Puzzle Pulsion – Mwoin Ka Songé – Antilles Series
From the Digital Zandoli compilation which features a range of soukous and Antillean boogie tracks but among them are some downright unclassifiable or weird tracks like this one. Needless to say those tracks are our favourites and feature often in our sets.
Pussy Mothers – Get From In Front Of Me – Optimo Music
One of our absolute favourites of 2016. Slomo post-punk house or whatever you want to call it but by far the freshest thing we heard coming out synths this year. On the ever interesting and ever more essential Optimo Music. This will feature in our end of year lists if we can be bothered to compile one.
