Onda Sonora Picks Week 8.
On Friday we’re playing at Bonnefooi again. Our yearly everything we play is for sale gig. Our way of getting rid of all the record we bought twice or more. Usually not because we forgot we already have them but rather because we like them so much we feel it’s a shame letting them gather dust in the cheap bins. It’s our way of making sure people have good records in their collection and not only bootleg represses of Nirvana, Johnny Cash or Dire Straits. The money we collect this way will be invested in a nice little crowdfunding project we started with some friends called Bûûmplanters aimed at making our city greener and more biodiverse by motivating people to plant trees on (their) private property.
Ashford & Simpson – Found A Cure – Warner Bros
While every hipster and his beard buddy is raving about that obscure but painfully bland disco track from Tajikistan none of that same bunch of overpriced thrift store clothes wearing fools knows shit about classic disco like this one. We offer y’all a chance to spend the few coins you have left, after buying that ridiculously too potent smartphone and those sneakers so ugly only selling them as rare makes idiots buy them , on records you really need.
Royalle Delite – I’ll Be A Freak For You – Streetwave
An absolute electro soul classic that you need in your record collection. The world should be ashamed this is left in the cheap bins.
Rahmlee – Think – Headfirst
Early 80s soul with a considerable dose of jazz from this studio musician with a few albums of his own of which we like the one this comes from the best. It’s not because we sell all we play we give in even one inch on quality and non-obviousness.
A Hundred Birds – Batonga (House mix) – Wave
A reprise of Angelique Kidjo’s early 90s classic by these Japanese experts in updating old ditties to subtle soulful house tracks. An early Onda Sonora classic.
D’Nell – This Thing – Abstract Blue
One we discovered through the Gilles Peterson radio show many years ago. Still has a special place in our heart. Their album was released through BBE but we’ll play and sell the original 12”. Quality early 2000 boombap soul.
